Rochelle Laplante
Host

Rochelle Laplante (she/her) is an Edmonton-raised multidisciplinary performance artist. She is overjoyed to be part of the premiere of Ms. Pat’s Kitchen and can’t wait for everyone to hear this deeply moving story. Previous credits include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The 70’s Musical, Clue, A Christmas Carol (Citadel Theatre); Little Shop of Horrors, Peter Pan Goes Wrong (Arts Club/ Citadel Theatre); CTRL-ALT-DEL, Hoodies (Concrete Theatre); Caribbean Muskrat (Teatro La Quindicina); Macbeth (Freewill Shakespeare); Hiraeth (Bright Young Things); The Importance of Being Earnest (Empress of Blandings).

Mingle Ensemble

Mingle Ensemble is a performance collaboration between storyteller Ruoh-Yeng Chang and musician Jia Jia Yong. Ruoh-Yeng is a passionate storyteller whose repertoire focuses on Chinese folktales, rediscovering one’s roots, and life through turmoil. As a family doctor, she is privileged to walk with all manner of people through all manner of journeys. As a first generation Chinese Canadian, she explores the folktales of her culture, and the adventure of integrating her ancestry into her Canadian identity. Jia Jia Yong is a harpist and composer based in Edmonton. She performs as a freelance musician at various events in Edmonton and area and also enjoys developing collaborative projects with other musicians and artists. Since 2021, Jia Jia has developed multidisciplinary pieces that bring together Chinese traditional art forms, such as calligraphy and martial arts, with storytelling and music. In 2022, Jia Jia received a grant from the Edmonton Arts Council to learn the modern konghou, a Chinese harp. Together Yeng and Jia Jia form the Mingle Ensemble with the goal of celebrating and sharing their Chinese heritage.

Karagiozis and the Festival of Wisdom
To Vouno

Step into the lively world of Karagiozis, the hungry but clever hero of Greek shadow theatre! In this fun and heartwarming tale, Karagiozis and his sharp-witted wife Aglaia, the earnest messenger Hadjiavatis, the proud but bumbling Sir Dionisios, the wise and gentle Athena, the joyful dancer Mparmpa Giorgos, and the brave leader Kolokotronis, prepare for the village’s Festival of Wisdom.

Filled with laughter, playful mischief, and memorable lessons, this interactive performance brought to you by “To Vouno,” a collective of Greeks and Lebanese, invites children and families to join the fun with songs, dances, and lots of audience participation. Performed using puppets from the Hellenic Canadian Community of Edmonton and Region, this vibrant show celebrates Greek heritage and timeless values of friendship, courage, and generosity.

Shivamanohari company is one of the most sought after Kuchipudi Dance groups in North America led by Gomathi Boorada. Performing in different cities across Canada and internationally, Shivamanohari company is known for its exquisite technique and engaging performance of uncolonized traditional arts of India with a modern narrative.

Indra’s Gift is a Multidisciplinary theatre production with Indian classical dance, Balinese shadow puppetry and drama. The play is written by Chris Dodd , Directed by Maralyn Ryan, choreographed by Gomathi Boorada.
