Ellie Heath
she/her
After decades in theatre, Edmonton-based multidisciplinary artist Ellie Heath is still spreading her wings, using the catharsis of songcraft to help her make sense of life’s ups and downs. Heath’s debut EP SHINE, which released on June 20, 2024, marks a shift from her earlier introspective work to a warmer, more inviting sound, with songs of “falling in love, falling out of love, and finding self-love.”
Heath collaborated with musician, producer, and Victory Pool Records manager Jesse Northey and musician Steven Foster to record and produce SHINE. Drawing inspiration from artists like Tennis, Squirrel Flower, Tim Baker, Alanis Morrissette, Sheryl Crow, and Counting Crows, Northey’s upbeat, inventive pop style and Foster’s theatrical insights added layers of glitter and gloss to the songs, balancing their emotional weight with brightness. Through SHINE, Heath weaves a journey of self-worth and growth, embracing trials and triumphs alike to find ways to soar.
A passionate mental health advocate, Heath fundraises and raises awareness through her art. In 2022, animator-director Doug Cook paired her song “Float Away” with a short film he created, exploring themes of anxiety, loneliness, and addiction recovery. The film, later adapted into a music video, earned critical acclaim, winning multiple awards including Best Music Video at the AMPIAS, and featured messaging supported by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
Heath is also known for her achievements in theatre, having written, produced and performed in the 5-star critically acclaimed show Fake n’ Bake, which featured “Float Away” and earned her three Sterling Award nominations. She has also toured Canada and the US with the award-winning sketch troupe Girl Brain.
You can see Ellie Heath next in JUPITER, the last show in Theatre Network’s 50th season at the Roxy 124 Street.
