ChandraTala
ChandraTala, under the direction of Laura Hawley, was founded in September 2019 and is the newest ensemble of the Korora Choir Association (Scott Leithead, Artistic Director). An upper voices choir for experienced soprano and alto singers of any gender identity, the choir’s Sanskrit name translates “rhythm of the moon.”
The choir has performed with the Canadian Chamber Choir, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Ariose Women’s Choir, had collaborated with local Edmonton musicians inducing singer-songwriter Maddie Storvold, and has premiered several new Canadian works. During the period from March 2020 to June 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic isolation period, ChandraTala participated in the Sonic Timelapse project, commissioned two new works by Canadian female composers, and pursued a rich season of workshops with composers and clinicians, small group and virtual choir projects, including a cross-Canada virtual choir collaboration with six of Canada’s top upper-voices/women’s ensembles. The choir performs in the SkirtsAfire festival and recently participated in a consortium to commission Ukrainian composer Iryna Aleksiychuk. ChandraTala continues to perform and collaborate throughout the community, pursue diverse repertoire, commission new works, work with clinicians locally and nationally, and support one another in community and song.

Ariose
Ariose, a treble voice choir, led by Artistic Director, Jolaine Kerley, has been enchanting audiences in Edmonton since its inception in 1995. With a mission rooted in celebrating the rich tapestry of Canadian composers, this nationally recognized ensemble has become known for its artistic excellence. Through programing, collaboration, outreach, and commissioning, Ariose maintains an unwavering commitment to showcasing the wealth of musical talent that Canada has to offer. Ariose frequently collaborates with Edmonton area choirs, and as we celebrate our 30th season, Ariose is excited to perform once again in the 2025 Skirts-a-Fire festival.

Nottingham Women’s Choir
In 2016 Nottingham Women’s Choir formally began, in response to a growing desire on the part of the mothers of the youth singers to have their own opportunity to create and share beautiful music together. Over the years, this non-auditioned choir has flourished, welcoming new singers and performing at seniors’ lodges, local and provincial festivals, and concerts in Sherwood Park and Edmonton. In April 2024 the choir was awarded the President’s Scholarship at the Sherwood Park Music Festival. This amazing group of women is directed by Amy Appleton and accompanied by Janine Fisher.

Headliner: Kaeley Jade
Kaeley Jade
Under the sweeping gaze of Edmonton’s prairie skies, Métis artist Kaeley Jade has carved out a space where art and soul converge. Her vibrant debut full-length album, Turpentine, has earned her significant recognition as a singer/songwriter in the Canadian music scene with accolades that include a Canadian Folk Music Award, Western Canadian Music Award Nomination, and Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award. Her music has received radio play across the globe, has been reviewed by publications worldwide, and has been featured in several film and television productions.
Blending folk, pop and indie rock, Kaeley’s lush imagery, stunning vocals, and electric stage presence have enthralled listeners at hundreds of venues and festivals across Canada, including the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, JUNOfest, International Indigenous Music Summit, and Canmore Folk Music Festival. Kaeley proudly wears her heart on her sleeve whether she is performing an intimate acoustic set or tearing it up alongside her full band. She will be joined at Skirtsafire by musician and visual artist Katie Wood.
Alongside her career as a singer/songwriter, Kaeley’s artistic pursuits also extend to the theatre, film and visual arts ecosystems; her multifaceted artistic journey has been significantly shaped by a hunger to continually build her knowledge and skills, which is reflected in her formal education by way of a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta, and through her participation in a range of programs and residencies, including the Citadel Theatre RBC Horizon Emerging Artists Program. A self-described multidisciplinary artist, Kaeley’s innate curiosity and creativity create many opportunities for her to weave her disciplines together. Most notably, her work on Two-Headed/Half-Hearted, an 18-song country-folk musical that premiered at Northern Light Theatre in 2022, showcased her talents as a composer, sound designer and actor while delving into themes of sisterhood, family, and identity.
As she prepares to unleash a new chapter of music, Kaeley invites her listeners to embrace change, find strength in vulnerability, and love fiercely.
