The Serving Communities Internship Program, SCIP, is a mutually beneficial opportunity for both nonprofit/voluntary sector organizations and students. Chosen SCIP students will receive a $1000 bursary at the end of their internship.

Assistant Volunteer Coordinator

SkirtsAfire Festival seeks an outgoing, organized and self-motivated student to take on the role of Assistant Volunteer Coordinator. The student will be responsible for seeking out and scheduling volunteers for the festival Box Office and Concession, training all scheduled volunteers, and creating and managing tracking documents for ticket and concession sales. The Assistant Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the Festival Manager and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure all Box Office and Concession duties are clearly communicated to all volunteers, and that all volunteers are treated with respect.

Box Office Manager

SkirtsAfire Festival seeks an outgoing, organized and self motivated student to manage the festival Box Office leading up to and throughout the duration of the festival. The successful candidate will work closely with our Festival Manager, Festival Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinator to: track ticket sales, manage Box Office inventory, schedule and train Box Office volunteers, and assist with end-of-day accounting reports on performance days.

Concession Manager

The SkirtsAfire Festival seeks one outgoing, organized and self motivated student to take on the role of Concession Manager this season. The Concession Manager will be responsible for planning and ordering stock, tracking inventory, training concession volunteers, planning the layout of the concession, and making and updating spreadsheets to keep track of inventory and sales. The Concession Manager will be on site during the festival to run concession with a volunteer and will be working with money and reporting sales daily.

Front of House Manager

This student will work closely with the Box Office and Concession Managers to prepare for the upcoming festival and ensure operations run smoothly during the festival.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of both the Box Office and Concession workflow, including tracking ticket sales, managing Box Office inventory, scheduling and training Box Office volunteers, and  end-of-day accounting reports on performance days.

For Concession, duties include planning and ordering stock, tracking inventory, training concession volunteers, planning the layout of the concession, and making and updating spreadsheets to keep track of inventory and sales.

This student will have a great understanding of both areas and float between the Box Office and Concession during the festival to help where needed most based on the day and the event.

Visual Art Coordinator

SkirtsAfire Festival seeks an outgoing, organized and self-motivated student to take on the role of Visual Art Coordinator. Working closely with an Assistant Visual Art coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

-Coordinating and managing the execution of a visual art exhibit

-Networking with professional artists and arts administrators

-Helping ensure the success of a multidisciplinary arts festival

Skirt Design Competition Coordinator

SkirtsAfire Festival seeks an outgoing and self-motivated student to take on the role of Skirt Design Competition Coordinator. This student will work closely with the Festival Director and the Festival Manager to devise a theme and design parameters for the competition. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a submission form and on-line application, researching and contacting and promoting to potential participants, creating the competition timeline, setting deadlines, sourcing celebrity judges, and formatting the competition.

Festival Photographer

SkirtsAFire Festival is seeking a creative student to take on the role of Festival Photographer. The successful intern will work closely with festival staff to capture festival events and happenings, including capturing photos at fundraisers, live events, and pre-production set up and rehearsals. Photos will be archived for use by the festival for granting and publicity purposes. The intern will work closely with the Festival Manager and Director to choose a selection of shots to best represent the festival online and in promotional material. Credit for photo use will be listed appropriately.

Marketing & Sales Assistant

SkirtsAfire Festival seeks an outgoing, organized and self-motivated student to take on the role of Marketing & Sales Assistant. Working closely with the Festival Manager, the successful candidate will sell program advertising space, support festival marketing efforts, run social media campaigns, and source opportunities to connect with the broader community. Responsibilities will also include monitoring and measuring success of marketing strategies.

Production Assistant

This student will work closely with festival staff to ensure festival productions and venues run smoothly. Tasks include:

  • Update festival staff contact sheet;

  • Assist with venue set up and strike of the festival venues;

  • Work with the production manager (PM), technical director (TD), technicians, festival director, and festival manager to make sure events run smoothly and on-time;

  • Assist with show-flow for high-attendance events;

  • Under the direction of the TD and PM, create a binder and/or USB for future festival management;

  • Assist with sourcing, purchasing materials, pick up of materials for festival as required;

  • Install banners for bridges and outside of venues;

  • Work with technicians to build the theatre space, cabaret space and the gallery space(s);

  • Assist with setup, cleaning and strike of performance venues each day as needed

Venue Technician Assistant

The role will involve support for our full time venue technicians.

Duties include:

– assisting in the set up and strike of festival venues and events

– covering technician shift breaks

– assisting technicians during daytime events and evening cabarets

This person will work under the direction of Artistic Director,  Production Manager, Technical Director and Venue technicians.  Dates will be in late February and early-mid March, 2018.
