View all 6 finalists from our Skirt Design Competition on display throughout the festival.
March 9-12 | Open during festival events and 12pm – 4pm Saturday, March 11 | Skirt Gallery in the Cabaret Theatre, Alberta Avenue Community League (9210 118 Avenue)
The first skirt was designed and built for the Festival in 2013 and was worn by Cultural Minister Heather Klimchuk as the Honorary Skirt. It became the Official Festival Skirt that year, and was proudly featured in the Nina Art Gallery for the duration of the programming. In 2014, we opened up the Official Festival Skirt design as a competition in order to expand and allow for the ability to showcase more than one designer each year.
Six designers have been chosen to compete in the competition by designing a skirt made of found and upcycled materials only, in the theme, ‘A Skirt From Her Closet’. The winning Skirt will be crowned at the Media Launch, and the top 3 designs will receive cash prizes.
